In the information society, The communications network, based on fiber-optic technology, has undergone tremendous changes to promote the huge demand, so that the system of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) has been widely deployed and applied, WDM provides a solution to solve the transmission bottleneck. But at the same time, it also takes tremendous pressure to the switching node and the most traditional business need O-E-O conversion. We must use the technology of optical switching to increase capacity of the switching node. ROADM (Reconfigurable Optical Add/Drop Multiplexer) could accomplish dynamic, flexible wavelength routing according to the management of practical business. ROADM is the key optical equipment modules that makes the net evolve to all optical network(AON).Increasing optical network programmable devices, such as Flex TRX, FLEX OF, as well as Flex ROADM etc., we can combine programmable OpenFlow virtual programmability and flexible physical device to achieve a more flexible optical network control. This paper focuses on WSS module system and alter the OpenFlow protocol to communicate with the underlying programmable devices. The main content and innovations are listed as the following three aspects:1. Research the three popular ways to realize the dynamic ROADM, includes the wavelength block(WB), planar lightwave circuit(PLC) and Wavelength Selective Switch(WSS). For each technology, we describe the corresponding ROADM subsystem architectures in terms of functionality, features and maturity. We make that the WSS is the most appropriate technology to achieve ROADM. After that we discuss the development of features of the next ROADM, including colorless, directionless, contentionless, and flexgridless operation,the feature of flexgridless become an significant trend.2. We have achieved the Flexgrid WSS module system. At first, design WSS adapter circuit board and make mechanical transformation of industrial machines, then build the modular system into the industrial machine. The WSS modular system communicate with the local computer through the RS232serial port, the Java and Twaver client can achieve flexible control of the WSS module channel bandwidth, wavelength export and power attenuation, the system can work at three modes of50Ghz,100Ghz and Flexgrid interval. The WSS module system can be applied to achieve the actual network node flexgrid bandwidth transmission tasks of different particles, with a strong sense of value and innovation.3.Research OpenFlow protocol, which is the core implementation protocol of SDN, the paper design the WSS device management architecture based on the OpenFlow protocol and alter the OpenFlow protocol to make the SDN controller communicate with the physical device each other. The layer application can achieve the control of underlying programmable optical module, this is also one of the innovations of this article.
