As cloud computing has become a new IT model, users can access configurable computing resources as demanded through networks conveniently. Data centers provide the operational platform for information services. Efficient cloud computing platform virtualizes hardware resources beneath the data center and provides a range of services to users and applications through unified management and operation. Among many cloud computing platforms, OpenStack is now getting the attention by many equipment manufacturers as an’ outstanding open source project, and many small Internet companies also become OpenStack users gradually. It is an important issue of could computing platform that how OpenStack can provide efficient services for different application scenarios, reduce the delay time of interaction modules between platforms and manage their computing, storage and networking platform resources conveniently and effectively.Based on OpenStack platform, this paper combines with the excellent open source distributed file system GlusterFS and researches the following series of work and innovation.(1) Analyzed the technical characteristics of cloud computing and architecture, compared several main cloud computing platforms, made a profound study on the OpenStack cloud computing platform, and focused on the research of object storage module and block storage module of OpenStack.(2) Discussed the current developing situation of DFS(distributed file system), analyzed the details of GlusterFS in architecture, technology and trends, focused on the research of the advantages of GlusterFS as the storage backend systems and proposed the design of OpenStack cloud computing platform using GlusterFS as the storage backend systems.(3) Analyzed the function of GlusterFS in OpenStack platform and the relationship with other platform in the system. Achieved the interaction of OpenStack using the API of GlusterFS, and tested the functions of creating, working and migrating of the virtual machines. Guaranteed the stability and security redundant storage of the virtual machine images according to the mechanism of GlusterFS, and tested the reading and writing performance index of the virtual machines through FIO.(4) Combined the current development trend of virtualization platforms and distributed storage this paper summarizes the difficulties of storage resources management in the could computing platform. Accomplished an SDS(Software Defined Storage) model based on this platform using the function of Cinder module in OpenStack platform.
