ether (MTBE) of a petrochemical facility in Tianjin, the author of this paper simulated dynamically the operation process of MTBE, and successfully developed a dynamic simulation system for MTBE plant. The paper firstly introduced the background knowledge of chemical process simulation, and the whole process of MTBE plant, including four parts: pretreatment of raw material, synthesis of MTBE, separation of product and recovery of methanol. On this basis, through thorough analysis of the actual production process, the author established relevant thermodynamic models and mathematical models of unit equipments, involved expanded-bed reactor, distillation column, extraction column and flash tank etc. Among them, taken the mathematical model of expanded-bed reactor as an important research object, some reasonable simplifications and assumptions were carried out. Based on the mass and energy conservation, the dynamic differential equations of transfer model were obtained. Combined with the reaction kinetics model, A complete mathematical model of reactor was established. In the whole process simulation, the system applied sequential modular approach to solve the models by means of DSO platform. Through the inputs of initial information, process debug of modeling platform and model configuration etc., a set of MTBE simulation system has finally been developed.Real-time dynamic simulation can be operated by this simulation system. The simulation data is consistent with the real plant data by comparison and validation. So it has achieved the desired effect, and it can be used not only for simulation operation of MTBE plant, but also for the process control optimization.
