OPC (Object Linking and Embedding for Process Control), which is the application of Microsoft’s OLE(Object Linking and Embedding) technology in process control system. The aim of OPC is to provide a standard mechanism for communicating with numerous data sources, which are either from the field devices or from the databases.This paper described the newest software interconnecting standard in the industrial control field-OPC technology, solving between the client layer and control layer for data exchange real-time and reliability problems in current supervisory control system. Firstly, this article proposed the existing problems in current supervisory control system. When the supervisory control system collected the field device operating parameters from its control layer, the parameters could not real-time data exchange between the client layer and control layer in the system, resulting the parameters can not be real-time displayed in the client layer control interface and operators can not set equipment operating parameters. Secondly, the problems existing in the supervisory control system were analyzed carefully, the widely used DDE(Dynamic data exchange) data exchange technology between the client layer and the control layer in the supervisory control system was not easy guaranteed at real-time and reliability. Compared with the past DDE technology, the OPC technology had high-speed real-time data transmission performance and achieved high reliability. Lastly, based on OPC technology shows its real-time and reliability advantages, designed a kind of distributed supervisory control system structure with OPC technology, and the system structure could be used in supervisory control system of starter performance test, through the starter performance testing supervisory control system practical application, OPC technology can solve supervisory control system data exchange real-time and reliability problems. This paper proposed a method that supervisory control system using OPC technology achieved real-time data interactivity and reliability. Supporting the OPC standard application software as OPC server and OPC client applied to the distributed supervisory control system architecture, OPC servers on control layer can communicate with OPC clients on customer layer, realizing between customer layer and control layer data real-time transmission.Through the method given above, supporting the OPC standard configuration software-WinCC (Windows Control Center), for example. Based on the project-starter performance test platform, achieving the application of OPC technology in starter performance test supervisory control system.
