Wireless sensor network is widely used in military reconnaissance, environmental monitoring, medical care, space exploration and other fields, with the rapid development of sensor technology, wireless communication technology and computer technology. For many applications, wireless sensor networks have many limitations in the form of isolated. And if it can connect with the other external network, then, we can manage、control and access to the wireless sensor network through the external network. Each node owns one unique ID in the network as its address, which is the foundation and prior condition to network routing and data delivery. When the quantity of nodes is large, the static method of address allocation is inefficient. The address auto allocation protocol can improve the efficiency. While most existing address allocation protocol cannot directly ensure the uniqueness of the address of the new node, they depend on the broadcasting of address duplicate detection packets to get a unique address. However, it will increase the network overhead of address allocation and be unprofitable to the efficient using of node energy. On the basis of in-depth research about wireless sensor networks node existing address allocation protocol, this paper proposes an address auto allocation mechanism of wireless sensor networks based on clustering. The protocol is mainly applied to the hierarchical wireless sensor networks. All nodes in the wireless sensor networks are being categorized, including the cluster-head nodes, nodes, leaf nodes, application nodes. The wireless sensor networks will be divided into several logical areas, each logical area has a cluster head node. Unlike traditional address configuration protocol, address configuration of this protocol will no longer be concentrated or dispersed to a proxy node or to all nodes, it is assigned to the cluster head nodes and nodes in clusters. The address configuration in a logical area is done by the cluster head node or nodes within the cluster. Nodes’role are determined by the resources they have and the neighbor nodes within one scope. The agent nodes(within the cluster head node and cluster node) assign address for the new node on the basis of their own address and use the variable to store the next address can be assigned. The agent nodes (within the cluster head node and cluster node) periodically send packets to its children nodes in order to ensure the normal using of the node’s address and recycling the address. When proxy node has not enough resources to stay on its role as proxy node, it will send broadcast packets to all assigned address directly by itself The child nodes received the broadcast packets will reply packets containing the current configuration of information such as data packets to the agent node, which is used for the agent node to determine its successor. Finally, the paper use software in the OPNET14.5(Optimization Performance Network Engineer Tool) to simulate address configuration protocol in a simulation environment one:100m x100m and simulation environment two:10km x10km, which have10nodes and50nodes. Simulation results show that node address configuration protocol based on clustering for wireless sensor networks takes the smaller cost and low latency compared with traditional address configuration protocol LISAA. Due to the introduction of the unique address generation mechanism and recycling mechanism, the possibility of duplicate address is being greatly reduced and the address wasting is being avoided.
