The past decade has seen a huge growth in the area of microwave applications, resulting in anever increasing demand for bandwidths, which pushes the microwave applications in the region ofmillimeter wave. And nonradiative dielectric waveguide (NRD) has been proved to be a promisingcandidate of traditional waveguide in microwave and particularly millimeter wave region due to itssuperior performance. To realize the millimeter system with high performance, in this paper, twodifferent structures integrated planar circuit and NRD waveguide were proposed. These hybridplanar/nonplanar integrated structures avoid the drawbacks brought by single planar circuit orsingle nonplanar circuit and inherit both advantages. Furthermore, the type of these hybridintegrated structures is different from the former ones. To eliminate the problems of integratingcomplex planar circuits in high frequency region, existed in the traditional hybrid integratedstructures, the planar circuits are deposited on the parallel plates of NRD waveguide in this paper. In addition, instead of conventional NRD waveguide, the substrate integrated nonradiativedielectric (SINRD) waveguide directly fabricated on PCBs were used to integrate the planar circuits. To do so, the problems of mechanical errors and integrating difficulties could be suppressed. Two different hybrid integrated systems, in this thesis, are simulated and analyzed: a transitionof microstrip line to SINRD waveguide directly fabricated on PCBs and a transition of coplanarwaveguide (CPW) to SINRD waveguide directly fabricated on PCBs. Furthermore, both transitionsbased on conventional NRD waveguide and on SINRD waveguide directly fabricated on PCBs aresimulated and compared. The results proved to agree well. Finally, transitions of microstrip line andCPW to SINRD waveguides based on PCBs are manufactured repectively. Simulated results areenumerated to compare with the measured results, agreements can be found.
