With the development of smart grid, smart meter reading system put forward a higher requirement on communication technology and network. And the Ethernet Passive Optical Network (Ethernet PON) based on Ethernet is the important technology to realize broadband access and integrated multi-service. Its flexible networking also naturally coincides with the grid distributed structure. These technologies and networking features make EPON to be the key technology of the construction of smart grid access network and smart meter reading system. In addition, with the rapid development of mobile internet, people put forward increasing high demand for bandwidth. WLAN has been widely used in order to meet people’s need. However, bandwidth of wireless communication is limited and high-frequency radio signals cannot be transmitted for a long distance. Hence RoF technology which combines wirelss and optical communication features was born.’But there are some differeces between RoF system and conventional wireless communication system. RoF system would encounter many new problems, such as non-linear intermodulation distortion. This paper describes two aspects:1. Implemention of the EPON communication module as smart grid collectorAt first, this paper introduces the basic structure of EPON and its working principle, and then analyzes the design and implementation of EPON communication module in smart grid in terms of hardware and software. The hardware part mainly introduces CPU module, optical transceiver module and UART module. The software part analyzes some of the major software infrastructure and the main program flow. Finally, the test results show that the ONU has met requiements of wavelength, emitted light power and receiver sensitivity.2. Research of digital pre-distortion of RoF system for multiband siginalThis paper introduces the appearance and development of the RoF system and analyzes characteristics of RoF and performance indicators such as link gain, noise figure and dynamic range. Then we discuss nonlinear distortion problem of RoF system and propose a new multi-service digital pre-distortion hybrid transmission scheme, which considers the transmission of mixed multiple signals and second-order nonlinear distortion on the base of common digital pre-distortion solution. At last, the corresponding theoretical analysis and experimental verification have been put forward in the paper.
