The production and propagation of reality TV shows have become the main program form for the propagation of programs in the current TV media. With the increasingly intensified competition in the media market, reality TV shows also develop along with constant exploration. The continuous development of reality shows satisfies the audience’s needs for program information reception in the aspect of contents, form and marketing of programs.The program Dad. Where Are We Going produced by Hunan TV became in vogue from October2013. As a TV entertainment program with its copyright introduced from abroad, in the process of production at home, it was processed with localized creation of reality entertainment show with copyright introduced from abroad, making the propagation contents, aesthetic culture of the show and the propagation mode adjust to needs of domestic audience and ultimately setting an objective for localized exploration of reality shows. The program Dad. Where Are We Going soon won the favor of the audience through localized innovation, celebrity effects of guests and successful propagation of shows in the form of experiential reality shows. Besides, as for the contents, the integration of traditional Chinese perspective of family education and the atmosphere of interaction of family affections satisfy the audience’s needs for program information reception. Along with achieving the entertaining propagation of shows, the localized marketing of programs also won the recognition of society, thus genuinely harvesting dual success in propagation effects and marketing benefits of the show.However, as an entertainment reality show, these parent-child reality TV shows like Dad, Where Are We Going are still at the exploration stage, and quite a number of results have been obtained for the localized practice of shows, some problems existing in the propagation of shows are unveiled as well, such as the shows imposing some misleading on values of the audience, lack of innovation for these introduced entertainment shows, and homogeneity in development for shows of the same kind, etc. All these bring adverse impacts on the development of parent-child reality shows, especially considering the current conditions of increasingly fierce competition for domestic reality TV shows, the operators of parent-child reality TV shows will need more exploration for innovations in parent-child reality shows and personalized features of media really reflected in these parent-child reality shows.In combination with the status quo for propagation and exploration of parent-child reality shows like Dad, Where Are We Going, especially problems currently existing in propagation of these shows, there will be more exploration needed for improving the localized propagation effects of parent-child reality shows. Improvements and innovations are to be carried out in the aspects of the show’s right guidance of the audience’s values, adhering to innovative awareness of contents and form and authenticity of reality shows in propagation as well as the right core values established for the show itself.As a reality show with integration of traditional Chinese perspective of family education and developing with experiential activities, parent-child reality shows will bring adequate surprises to the audience once appearing. Based on the current program propagation, carrying out greater improvements of the show, especially more reasonable localized improvements of reality shows with combination of the cultural values of domestic audience and the development environment of domestic entertainment programs will help achieve the entertainment features of shows and enhance better guidance of social values. This is the direction for future development of parent-child reality shows, deserving better exploration for media operators.
