Nowadays, Spray drying technology is an important branch of drying technology, which hasbeen widely used in the catering industry, beverage industry, confectionery industry and paperindustry. Maltodextrin spray drying is a process with high energy consumption and high degreeof difficulty. In this paper, we did a study for the characteristic of delay in the control process,and designed a spray drying control system that has high degree of automation.The control system adopts S7-1200PLC of Siemens as the control center and next crew,using WinCC configuration software of Siemens as the PC monitor. WinCC and PLC form a twolevel distributed control mode, which accomplish the automation control mission in the spraydrying process. The hardware of system describes the selection of equipment, distribution ofsystem I/O points, system’s control structure, the anti-interference analysis for system, etc, andsoftware mainly complete program design, the monitor screen design and the realization ofcommunication. We put forward a cascade PID control scheme. In this scheme, the inlettemperature is the deputy charged amount and outlet temperature is the main charged amount,the opening degree of the steam regulating valve is the control amount for the system while itadds Smith predictor in the control structure. Meanwhile, the paper proposes an adaptive geneticalgorithm to optimize the PID parameters of the system.The article focuses on the control strategy of spray drying system, and make a simulation forthe maltodextrin spray drying process in MATLAB software, the simulation result shows that thesystem controlling effect fully achieve the desired goals. In addition, Considering both the PLCand WinCC data processing ability is not particularly strong, in order to reduce the workload ofcontrol system, the computation of adaptive genetic algorithm will be performed on MATLAB.
