With the proposition of forestry informatization, open source GIS technology has achievedexplosive development in digital forestry. All kinds of management databases of forestry resourcewhich are based on open source GIS are emerging one after another and becoming popular.These databases are widely applied to digital forestry nowadays, besides, they have been used aseffective decision-support tools for all departments.JiangSu province combined the actual situation with the established the performancecomprehensive inspection methods of afforestation in JiangSu province based on national andrelated technical standards of afforestation. On the basis of which, JiangSu province unified thetechnical standards and methods of afforestation across the whole province, implementedqualified afforestation areas into subcompartments and established the relevant profiles. Besides,the non-visible prototype of afforestation management system in JiangSu province wasdeveloped, we could transform all the informations of afforestation subcompartments into codesby using this system, then, we could proceed to manage and summarize those databases. The aimof this paper is to achieve visible function of management software for afforestation information,lower the cost on system exploitation and speed up the process of afforestation informationmanagement via the application of SharpMap.Based on full knowledge to development of open source GIS and research status quo whichis about domestic and overseas GIS and management system for forest resource, this paper whichregarded subcompartment for afforestation in JiangSu Province as the object of the researchproposed the design and implementation of management software for afforestation information inJiangSu Province based on sharpmap. SharpMap is a small and easy-to-use GIS platform whichis based on NET2.0platform. And sharpMap is exploited to be an open source GIS project byusing C#language. SharpMap has strong expansibility, which could be used to develop networksand GIS applications on desktop. SharpMap could support various formats of GIS data andspatial query. Comparing sharpMap with commercial web-GIS product which is too vast andhigh-cost, we could conclude that sharpMap has the characters such as small-size,opensource,flexible.So it is suitable for using sharpMap to do secondary development of a small-scalGIS. SharpMap could rewrite the back-end code according the actual needs.And it is flexible andconvenient in use. SharpMap occupies less resource and responds quickly. The function ofsharpMap is simple and practical. SharpMap performs well in.NET environment, because it wasexploited under.NET environment. And it is very easy to use sharpMap, what you needs to do isto reference responsive dll files in.NET project, no complicated installation process. UsingsharpMap could lower the exploitation cost and improve performance of software, becausesharpMap is an open source software and also supportive to render effect of maps and calling dllwhich includes B/S and C/S ways. Firstly, this paper introduced the domestic and overseas development status quo ofmanagement system for forest resource.Comparing different ways of exploitation of managementsystem for forest resource, this paper analyzed and summarized the aspects of managementsystem for forest resource that are urgent to improve, besides, the objective and meaning of thisresearch was confirmed. The author compared different development platforms through themethod of expert system and combined the design object and characteristics of managementsoftware.The development model of management software was ascertained.On the basis ofprevious studies,the paper implemented the stratified selection. Finally, SharpMap was selectedfrom diverse open source GIS softwares to frame the management software for afforestationinformation in JiangSu Province.Based on the demand that management software forafforestation information in JiangSu Province should meet the unification of afforestationstandard in JiangSu Province and forestry information sharing,the ultimate systematic aim wasconfirmed through the analysis about system structure and system functional module. Then,based on system analysis, this paper detailedly designed system databases and the function ofsubsystems. Secondly, the system reliability, convenience and universality of system applicationswere verified by simulation run system using part of the data of inspection results forafforestation in Changshu,JiangSu Province in2012and test which is about interactiveapplication between system and ArcGIS to deal with data. Final step is the further simulatedexploitation to the system.The management software for afforestation information in JiangSu Province based onsharpmap has sovled a data conversion problem and a semantic constraint data format conversionand no semantic constraint data format conversion. It also has completed the spatial data queryand application based on metadata.The managementsoftware has realized the GISinteroperability and is a applied software which collects mapping,resource investigation,information management, spatial analysis and prediction. The development example ofmanagement software for afforestation information in JiangSu Province could accelerate theforestry informatization construction,improve work quality and efficiency,meet the needs ofgovernment decision-making.In strict accordance with the standard of afforestation in JiangSuProvince, the management software which combined3S(Remote Sensing RS、Geographicalinformation System GIS、Global Positioning System GPS) technology,modeling technology,database technology in a independent development way could assist massive data managementand verify the standardization and accuracy of data.It could provide a basis for scientificmanagement and macro decision-making.In this paper, the author has made the attempt and discussion on the application ofmanagement for afforestation information by open source GIS technology. The preliminaryresearch results showed that the system which could meet the needss of management forafforestation information in JiangSu Province was pretty valuable in use.
