With the arrival of the first peak aging in the21st century society, the requirementsof elderly’s spiritual and cultural life are also highlighted further. The old-age WorkCommittee issued the report of Chinese aging development (2013).—The first bluebook focus on aging career development, and it also emphasized that we shouldpay more attention on developing the cultural undertakings in elderly, enriching thespiritual life of old people, satisfying the elderly’s cultural demand. This fullyshows that China attaches great importance to the elderly’s spiritual and culturallife, to encourage the development of the cultural industry in elderly patients. Insuch a case, China’s aging population has intensified, which provided someopportunities for the traditional media, especially the elderly periodicals--as oneof the media which most widely, closely contact the older age groups, who isobligated to publish periodicals for orderly. However, regardless of the quantity orquality, china’s elderly periodicals is unable to meet the spiritual needs of elderlypopulation, even some provinces have yet to establish elderly Journals. On onehand, there is the growing elderly population with large reading requirements; onthe other hand, there is our existing legacy of journal Numbers and poor quality. Inthe face of the current prominent contradictions in the supply and demand, theacademia and the industry must pay more attention and do something different. This study first explains the background of aging population in the journal whichemerge as the times require, then states the history of the development and thecurrent situation related journals of gerontology research, and also makes a reviewof domestic elderly periodicals, analyzes and defines the concept,classification,characteristics of the development of china’s old journals. At last,the study analysis and summarizes the development situation of both Britain andAmerica in old journals, selects the two most representative elderly journals–theUSA of <AARP> and the United States of <Saga>, with the comparative analysisto the "friends of the old comrades"(the country’s largest elderly journal). It makesa comparison research from the general concept of old journals (orientation,content, style), management, market, brand, distribution), industry support and soon, also finds out the specific differences between China and western elderlyjournals Finally, this study is aim to discuss and explore old periodicals in China’sdevelopment strategy and the future prospects through the comparative analysis ofChinese and Western (USA and Unite States).
