At present, there three kinds of meter reading methods in domestic, includingmanual，wired and IC card prepaid。The traditional manual meter reading method cannot guarantee the accuracy and timeliness.It will cost huge workload also. This willDirectly have great impact on the efficiency of the electricity sector. Although thewired meter reading method has great flexibility. But it costs high and hard to maintain.What’s more,the data transfer process is easily interfered by the environment factors.system stability is poor. But using the ZigBee wireless meter reading method, thesystem is convenient and flexible during data transmission.In this paper, firstly introduced the meter-reading situation.And the discuss theadvantages and disadvantages of these meter-reading methods.Finally，choosing theAMR system as the main topic. Secondly，discuss the relationship and differencebetween ZigBee standard and IEEE802.15.4standard.Study the types of ZigBeedevice and the role it takes in a ZigBee net.especially the functions of thesedevices.The coordinator is used to build and manage the whole net，the router is torouting and addressing while the end-device is used to collect and transfer thedata.chose the suitable chip devices to finish the hardware design.Select CC2530asthe SOC chip. and CC2591as the power amplifier unit to enhance the transfer distance.Otherwise choose the MSP430MCU to accomplish the data collection and operation.Select the AD7755chip device to measure the electricity that the users haveconsumed，and then transfer to the MSP430MCU to calculator.Finally，using the simulation software to built the mesh net.and using severalZigBee device to built the net.The net system can run stable. More importantly，theprocession of data transfer is security and accuracy. In conclusion，the whole systemachieve expected goal and demands.
