Ranging system which has provided a great convenience to people’s life has been used widely in many fields, like automobile crashworthy, the surface measurement and military using. Nowadays most of ranging systems take pulse signal as its transmitting signal, the pulse ranging system can get better precision. With the development of technology, people raise a higher claim for resolution, accuracy and anti-interference to a new level, however, traditional pulse signal can’t meet these demands, so people start to look for new ranging signal.Theoretically the signal which has resolution ultra-wideband, noise-power spectral characteristics can be better balanced ranging system; the pseudo random signal is such signal. According to public papers, people has not applied pseudo-random signal directly into ranging system, but in most case people use it to modulate pulse signal in order to get some excellent technical indicators, however, modeling transiting signal with pseudo random signal has obvious disadvantage, the system will inevitably be limited and restricted by modulated signal.This paper presents a set of ranging system using pseudo random continuous wave signal as signal source, and build a set of pseudo-random based ranging system of continuous wave signal. This article describes the overall structure of the ranging system, and the each part’function of the system is described in detail; Then the ranging system hardware selection and the role of a detailed description are given, some notices also be suggested. Then software part of the system is described detailed, and then we made a lot of relative experiments and tests.We can draw the following conclusions through detailed analysis of the data:1) Pseudo random signal may be used as a continuous wave transmission signal ranging system, and complete the ranging function;2)The ranging system can achieve a higher accuracy because of pseudo random signal’s character,0.5cm so far and there is a lot of space to improve.3) Anti-jamming capability of the system is superior to conventional pulsed radar systems ranging under the same condition because of the class of pseudo-random noise signal;4) The system can detect multiple targets,0.5cm can be distinguished under experimental condition so far.At the same time our work has some deficiencies, such as software has not de-noising processing algorithms, there are many places which can be improved in hard ware. However, this paper provides a scientific basis and practical guidance as the transmitted signal ranging system for the future use of the pseudo-random continuous wave signal.
