With the approach of the information age, optical fiber communication is more andmore important in people’s scientific research, work and life. Because of its highbandwidth, large capacity, high speed, resistance to electromagnetic interference, longtransmission distance, light weight and small size, optical fiber communication becomesthe main transmission means for the modern communication network.Optical fibercommunication is widely used in long haul communications systems and the optical fiberaccess network transmission system.It changes the overall condition of communicationnetwork architecture deeply and widely.As the growth of the optical cable transmission lines, the construction, the roadsplan changed by people and other natural disasters, the hidden troubles and failures offiber optic cable are growing gradually, which influence the normal operation of thecommunication network seriously, even lead to the paralysis of the entire communicationnetwork and huge economic losses. How to improve the reliability of optical fibercommunication, monitore and manage effectively the optical cable lines timely, capturethe fault symptom and hidden trouble accurately, and at the same time locate the failuresite accurately has already become an important subject up to now.Based on the demand of fiber optic cable resources management, we design andrealize the fiber resource management system based on Google Maps in this paper. Thesystem combines with GPS satellite positioning, WebGIS, database and geographicinformation technology, adopts B/S system architecture and J2EE developmentframework, realizes the user management and resources, the daily management ofrouting, cable fiber function, and precise locating the cable barriers. Based on theprinciples of optical fiber communication and OTDR test curve in optical fusion pointand breaking point jump, the characteristics of the distance calculation formula based onGoogle Maps and GPS coordinates, we propose a cable fault location algorithm. Throughthe routing of the test cable search and coordinate calculation of the failure of cables incable fault points, we realize the accurate positioning failure.
