Nowadays, wireless sensor network has become the largest network besides the Internet, and has been widely used and studied in various fields. As part of protocol stacks of wireless sensor network, routing protocol for network layer has a direct effect on energy utilization efficiency in data transmission, which is one of the hotspots of current research. The thesis traverses typical routing protocol for WSN, and puts forward a new kind of Energy Efficient Multi-Hop Clustering routing protocol-EEMC protocol, in allusion to the disadvantage of LEACH protocol.LEACH protocol is a kind of typical clustering routing protocol. It has ignored nodes’geography position and remnant energy when choosing cluster heads. The clustering nodes adopt single-hop communication with the Base Station, due to which the nodes will consume much more energy when the relay distance is long, and this will lead to the earlier death of clustering nodes owing to the low remnant energy, and it will also shorten the lifetime of the sensor network. EEMC routing protocol works out the nodes number of each cluster according to the minimum nodal coverage density. It adds remnant energy in the selection process of cluster. And while data is transmitted, it chooses the first cluster head from the cluster heads, which brought the implementation of multi-hop communications. What’s more, later in the network lifetime, it can also reduce energy consumption effectively and equipoise every node’s energy consumption. The thesis stimulates LEACH protocol and EEMC protocol. The result indicates that EEMC protocol can prolong the lifetime of the sensor network and reduce energy consumption compared with LEACH protocol. It is obvious that EEMC protocol can reduce network energy consumption.
