Tourism has developed rapidly and become the global largest emerging industryduring recent years. Since we enter the information era, we have employed computerin many aspects in tourism. With the blossom of WebGIS, tourism informationsystem based on WebGIS are springing up for those tourism information systemsbased on C/S or B/S lack management and analysis toward spatial information, whichhardly meet the information standard that demands excellent time sequence, largeamount of information and spatial features. All mentioned above is the reason whytourism route planning system for the city of Zhumadian is really crucial.This essay summarizes the study background, importance, current research statusand key technology of the existing tourism information systems. The main studywork is as follows:(1)We select Zhumadian as research region and conduct detailed systemfeasibility analysisand demand analysis according to practical requirement of primaryclients, including tourists and administration planning department as well asadvantages and disadvantages of present tourism information systems.The systemstructure, each functional module, spatial data base, attribute data base and interfaceare devised in detail on the basis of the demand analysis and the principles of integrity,progressiveness and practicability.(2)we offer service for tourists to gain superb travelling experience inZhumadianbasedonscenic spots’ geographic characteristics in this city. What’s more,proper routes are designed according to various preferences from various clients. Oneof features is that this system can automatically plan and select optimal path whiletourists choose scenic spots in self-help way.(3)we employ ArcGIS Server+SQL2005data base technology to set up spatialand attribute database for travelling route planning system of Zhumadian. This systemis developed depending on Flash Bulder4.6. we have implemented five functionalmodules of scenic spot display, route planning, query for accommodation,characteristic farmhouse and convenience service for the people. The system provides comprehensive service and support for clients to plan tourism in Zhumadian.
