In recent years, with the development of social economy and the progress of science and technology, the low of Agricultural Mechanization in our country is on the rise. At the same time, some professional agricultural machinery cooperative organizations and large-scale farms are in the continuous development and growth. And as the agricultural production in pursuit of mechanization and modernization, it also began to pay more attention to cost saving and ecological protection, resulting in the concept of precision agriculture. It will be the future direction of agricultural development. The real-time measurement of agricultural machinery operation area has an important value for precision agriculture, which is of great help for guiding the agricultural machinery operate efficiently, controlling inputs and calculating the yield per hectare of corps. In addition, the large scale state-run farms of Heilongjiang reclamation area and some agricultural machinery cooperatives start to use new management mode of unified dispatch, charge and accounting. Whenever the agricultural machines operate with urgent time, there often exist problems of multiple machinists work at one plot and one machinist work at multiple plots, which make difficult for area measurement and accounting. So, it is necessary to equip the agricultural machines with a kind of measurement system which is accurate and reliable. The existing methods and equipments for agricultural operations measurement all have their shortcomings, and unable to meet the needs of high precision and real-time measurement.First, the paper overviewed the existing measurement methods of agricultural machinery operation area, and analyzed their merits and drawbacks. Based on this, according to the demand of high precision and real-time dynamic measurement for agricultural operation, this paper presented three different kind of measurement algorithms based on the operation trajectory of agricultural machinery—buffer algorithm, grid algorithm and distance algorithm, and introduced the related theory for algorithm design. Then, the paper narrated the realization processes and running environment of the algorithms. In the end, the paper has tested and compared the three algorithms from the aspects of accuracy and efficiency, analyzed the influence factors of GPS positioning accuracy and operation overlapping rate. The test results show that buffer algorithm and grid algorithm have the advantage in the case of overlapping operations, as they have a higher precision. But their precision will decrease with the decrease of GPS positioning accuracy. On the contrary, the distance algorithm has obvious advantage in the case of full amplitude, while it can be slightly effected by GPS positioning accuracy. But in the situations of overlapping operation, it will has serious error. In the aspect of time efficiency, distance algorithm is the fastest, grid algorithm is in the second row, and buffer algorithm is the slowest. View all measurement results, the accuracy of grid algorithm is slightly higher than buffer algorithm, thereby to be the optimal algorithm, which possesses accuracy and efficiency at the same time.
