It is very important for the study of atmospheric environment and weathermonitoring to detect and analyze the aerosols, clouds, fog and so on in the atmosphere. The micro-pulse lidar (MPL) serves as a convenient and effective mean to detect andstudy the atmospheric environment. The scattering echo signal of the laser pulseemitted into the atmosphere, processed and analyzed, may provide abundantatmospheric state information and physical parameters. This system designed thephoton counting module based on FPGA to accomplish the data acquisition for theMPL, and at the same time designed the AD collection module and DA output modulein order to facilitate control of the MPL and its working state detection. This paper mainly includes the following parts:1. Application background and research status of MPL. This section puts forwardthe research content and the implementation scheme of this paper after elaborating theresearch background in this field.2. Hardware design of the system. This part mainly includes the photon countingmodule, DA output module and the AD collection module, in which the photoncounting module is the core. The photon counting module is used to count thenumbers of the photons back and accumulate the result, improving the accuracy of themeasurement results.3. Software design of the system. This part Focuses on the application of theNios II embedded processor, emphatically introduces the software design of the threemodules and integrates the software design of the whole system. This system iscontrolled by the Nios II processor and working process, and receives PC command toperform the corresponding operation through a serial port. 4. System testing and application. This part introduces the testing of variousmodules and of the whole system respectively and expounds the application of thesystem.
