With the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) covering the fullAsia-Pacific region and the civilian BDS navigation applications taking the lead in thefield of transportation, the vehicle remote management and scheduling scheme basedon satellite navigation systems and mobile communication networks has become aresearch focus in the Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) area. The existingvehicle data recorder usually has single function and poor communication capability.For this, a real-time remote vehicle monitoring and scheduling scheme based on BDSand GPRS is proposed in this thesis. With the future development trend of ITS, theRFID technology is creatively applied to temporary short distance wirelesscommunication between vehicle terminals and roadside intelligent vehiclemanagement systems.There are four basic functions of the intelligent vehicle terminal designed in thisthesis: vehicle data recording, navigation and localization based on BDS, vehicleonline monitoring and scheduling through GPRS, short distance wirelesscommunication between vehicle terminals and roadside vehicle management systems.GPRS communication network can enable the always-on terminal device, and BDScan provide positioning, timing, speed services for users. Therefore, these twotechnologies can be combined to realize remote monitoring and scheduling of thevehicle. GPRS can not meet the communication requirements between the vehicle andthe vehicle automatic management system. However, RFID technology can just fill inthis blank of communication, which can complete automatic vehicle identification,intelligent guidance and electronic toll collection. Due to the comparatively maturetechnology of vehicle data recorder, it will not be considered as the design focus inthis thesis. And for the structural integrity of vehicle terminal, designs of the rest threeparts will be described.The main contributions of the thesis can be summarized as follows: 1) The overall structure of the vehicle terminal is studied and designed forapplications in the ITS field. Based on the original vehicle data recorder, positioningmodule and GPRS DUT module are added to support BDS signal acquisition andalways-on terminals respectively. Meanwhile, RFID module is introduced to car-road communication.2) The hardware platform construction, chips selection and part of the circuitdesign of the intelligent vehicle terminal are presented, including CPU chip selection,power module, positioning module, GPRS communication module, and RFIDmodule.3) The embedded Linux operating system transplant and software developmentare specified.4) Part functions of the intelligent vehicle terminal are implemented and tested.
