With the development of the technology of network, the contemporary network is required more and more to be quick, safe and cheap with high quality and superb service. However, the traditional VPN(Virtual Private Network)basing on IP has some shortcomings in its extensibility, security, management and service quality. As an important technology of NGN, MPLS is the best method of combining ATM and IP,which can meet those requirements very well. In recent years, VPN based on MPLS has provided the guarantee of service quality and different ranks of service, it is also characterized by high security and strong extensibility. According to the tendency of the network development, it will gradually have a good prospect of large-scale commercial applications. With the development of telecommunication technology and demand of better vpn service for customers, MPLS VPN is widely used as VPN service technology by most of telecom operators. Now, a commercially used MPLS VPN network has been built by Taiyuan Unicom, which can supply in-area and extra-area vpn service.After summarizing MPLS VPN basic theory,this article will introduce MPLS VPN services deploy of Taiyuan Unicom, including network layout、the access of VPN user^reliability of network. For the problems of Taiyuan Unicom’S MPLS VPN, we give detailed solutions, which already put in practice. At last, the paper forecasts the future application of MPLS VPN in the three nets fusion and NGN. Finally the project has been applied in the MAN of Taiyuan and brings well effect.
