As a comprehensive publication which published in Eight one three Songhu Anti-Japanese War, Shanghai Life experienced the ups and downs of history and radical changes from1937to1941. It narrowed the gap between readers and publications by its advertising, photography, writing, and various forms of art comics. The publication reproduced the city’s image of Shanghai and the abnormal consumption concept of the public under the special living environment and historical background during the period of the "isolated island" by the late1930s to early1940s.This study consists of four chapters. Through the basic facts and grasp the whole story of Shanghai Life, detailed studies of specific populations island lifestyle, entertainment and consumption patterns were made. Through the second, third and fourth chapters, life of isolated island populations, living space like Shikumen as well as Shanghai women were discussed. Following wanderer’s route by Shanghai Life, readers can explore the temples and parks, China-made goods and film entertainment consumption. Combining the advertising, photography, comics and and other art forms by Shanghai Life, the Mass consumption had been reproduced during the period of the "isolated island". This study is intended to reproduce the image of Shanghai by the late1930s to early1940s. Meanwhile, it makes up the missing catalogue of22directories, providing the later researchers with the possibility of researching Shanghai during the "isolated island".
