With the rapid development of China’s economic construction and populationincreasing, the city scale has expanded gradually, and it has caused many environment、meteorological problems. Urban heat island effect is a phenomenon that the temperatureof city center is higher than the suburbs’. It will not only bring a lot of harm to the human,but also increase the risk of high temperature disasters,cause climate、geography and othernatural disasters. Chengdu is the center city of politics、economy and culture in thesouthwest. In the process of the development of the western region, Chengdu has got rapiddevelopment in recent10years, urban area has been expanded outward constantly, and theurban heat island effect of Chengdu city has becoming obvious. In addition, there are fewscholars studying the urban heat island effect of Chengdu city in recent years. Thus, it isnecessary to study the urban heat island effect of Chengdu city and the related problems,and take effective measures to control and alleviate the development of the urban heatisland effect.This paper toke the TM/ETM+images of Chengdu on March26in2001and March24in2009as the main data sources. The main results achieved in the paper are shown asfollows:(1) To be prepared for the calculation of surface temperature later, the chapter hasfinished the work of geometric correction、image cutting and FLAASH atmospherecorrection processing to the two stage of images.(2) In support of RS and GIS technology, the chapter has used the tool of SpatialModeler calculating various parameters which is necessary to induce the surfacetemperature, then got the surface temperature of study area in the theory and method about IB method、MW method and SC method.(3) The paper got the chart of the surface temperature level distribution, thenanalyzed it from two aspects of heat island space distribution pattern and heat islandspace-time evolution characteristics, finally the chart summarized the main method ofreducing the urban heart island effect from different angles.The results of the study show that: firstly using the Spatial Modeler to deduce thesurface temperature can make the process of deducing the surface temperature simple,secondly the surface temperature which was got using different method is different fromeach other, the accuracy of the result which was got using MW algorithm is higher.Thirdly Through the related analysis on the urban heart island effect of the study area innearly10years. we can come to the following conclusion about the Chengdu city from2001to2009: the extent of urban heart island has been expanded, the city area of heatisland has been decreased, the suburbs area of heat island has been increased, the urbanheat island has been reduced to a certain extent.
