C-Band400W Solid Power Amplifier is extensively applied on military and commercial communication and has a high value of research and development. The research topic on high power amplifier design originates from some military scatter communication system project. C-Band400W Solid Power Amplifier develops, as corollary equipment, for a scatter communication system. The solid transmitter has high reliability, long life, low operation voltage and can replace the1KW klystron in XX system. Its operation frequency is4.4~5.0GHz, output power400W, dynamic frequency range63.5dB. To implement high power output, the amplifier uses multi-power synthesize technique. Via a power control module-NC attenuator unit, enlarge the power dynamic range. Regarding the large dynamic power specification on check, the equipment has integrated power check function and various protection functions. The design scheme and its modules scheme have respective innovate and original functions.This essay, first of all, introduces the theory of solid power amplifier specifications and multi-power synthesize, then in the general scheme gives details of equipment composition, modules design, components selection, reliability design. In the design and implement section of400W solid power amplifier, it emphasizes on driving stage power amplifier,250W power amplifier and digital control attenuator unit. Besides it analysis and imitate the equipment’s core part, multi-power distributor/synthesizer, such as Wilkinson bridge, modified Wilkinson bridge, microstrip wave-guide impedance converter and magic T etc. At last it gives the test method and test result of driving stage power amplifier,250W final power amplifier module,400W power amplifier and NC attenuator. The rack and cabinet structure design of power amplifier adopts the CAXA software, circuit design protel software, circuit imitation Serenade8.7and HFSS simulation software. Circuit matching design and distributor/synthesizer design will be modified by the optimized result of imitation software and comes into the final design result.
