Since entering the new century,with the rapid growth of information technologyand the IT industry, The traditional technology has been difficult to adapt to thegrowing demand of data processing, so we need a new technology. Cloud computingis able to provide general efficient computing and storage resources, and could givean effective solution for big data and save cost greatlyHowever, the developing of cloud computing also brought a lot of newproblems, the performance evaluation of cloud platform is one of the most importantaspect among them. Compared with the traditional computing platform, the cloudplatform is more complexity and have larger scale, so the performance testing ofcloud platform is very difficult. Now most of the existing research results of thecloud platform performance test only test one aspect of the performance for thecloud platform and the test method is not general, so we need further research.In this article, through the research on the architecture of cloud platform andthe characteristics of the cloud platform, the paper put forward three levels of cloudplatform performance testing: virtualization performance, resource managementand service ability,which correspond to the virtual resource management layer,middleware layer and application service interface layer. In each level, a number oftest items and corresponding testing index have been set up, for each test items thepaper also studies the corresponding performance test tools.In order to find the method to evaluate the cloud platform performance, thispaper sets up two typical cloud platforms,VMware vSphere and CloudStack, andchooses appropriate testing tools for the contrast test on the two platforms. In orderto evaluate the cloud platform service ability, this paper also implements a set ofload simulation tool based on LoadRunner, which can simulate multiple concurrentvirtual users for load test on the cloud platform.
