To overcome traditional AGC disadvantage in high accuracy and widecontrol range, a novel AGC for wireless communication system is proposedin the thesis. Due to being modified from the traditional AGCs, the AGC,which provides high accuracy and wide control range at the same time, canbe used in many practical applications.There are generally two approaches to implement an AGC, analog typeand digital type. Both of them have their advantage and disadvantage: theanalog type has high precision, but narrow control range because of usually12dB per stage; the digital control type possesses wider control range, butcontrol bits and switches number increase with its control accuracy rapidly.In the thesis, I combine the two approaches and get their advantages in widecontrol range and high accuracy.One of the AGC example applications provides50dB gain and less than500ns setting time.With many design variations of the AGC, the methods have high designfreedom, which could be used in many applications. Moreover, the thesisoffers a new design thought that the hybrid control signal can balance thecontrol range and accuracy.
