The leak of water pipeline leads to a huge waste of precious water, so leak detection inwater pipeline has great economic and social benefits. According to the frequencycharacteristics of cast iron pipeline leakage acoustic signal, this paper designs an instrumentfor leak detection in water pipeline based on DSP. This paper discusses the hardware andsoftware design of main modules. Also this paper does some measurement, processing andanalysis of leakage signal using the prototype.The instrument mainly consists of DSP minimum system and memory expansion module,human-computer interaction module, signal acquisition module, XBee wireless module andpower module. The signal acquisition module firstly converts the pipeline vibration signalinto analog electronic signal through a piezoelectric acceleration sensor, then amplifies andfilters the analog signal, and then the analog signal enters an A/D convertor, finally the digitalsignal is tranfered into DSP. The DSP minimum system and memory expansion module isresponsible for storage and processing of signal. The human-computer interaction module’score chip is a MPU, which has a keypad for the operation order input and a LCD screen forthe display of signal processing results. The XBee wireless module is used for thecommunication between the host and slave instrument, which is used for leak location.In the software design part of the instrument, we design the overall workflow firstly. Byconfiguring serial port of DSP and timer, we determine the sampling frequency of signalacquisition module. The synchronous serial port of DSP is configured into asynchronousserial port by a software method, so as to realize the connection with the XBee module. Wedesign DSP’s host-interface driver with MPU. DSP Bootloader process and implementation ofsome digital signal processing algorithms in DSP are briefly discussed.In the end of this paper, we use the prototype to measure pipeline vibration signal, andthe test results show that the instrument has preliminary leak detection ability. We can carryout the follow-up work which is leak location.
