Research On Realization Of IEEE802.11MAC Protocol Based On GNU Radio

With the rapid development of wireless network, the researches about the wirelessnetwork are also more widely and deeply. At present, the researches of wireless network aremainly operated by means of simulation, but comparing with wire transmission, wirelesstransmission’s medium is very unstable, so the result of the simulation about wirelesscommunication are not very reliable in many cases. More and more researchers want to studythe wireless network by using the actual radio platform so that they can get more reliable data.On the other hand, in the communication network, the standards of the under layers in thenetwork structure, such as the protocols of physical layer and data link layer, are usuallyworking in hardware implementation. However, with the development of the radio equipment,some underlying protocol’s rules need upgrade and modification. Compared to hardwareimplementation, the method of using software to control the physical layer and data link layerprotocol directly is a faster and more convenient way for researchers to upgrade the currentnetwork. So, the ideas of using Software Defined Radio (SDR) technology to study wirelesscommunication in the actual network platform are more and more popular.This paper provides a program about the realization of IEEE802.11MAC protocol basedon SDR platform GNU Radio. This program uses SDR technology to make researchers candirectly control radio communication by changing the code of MAC protocol. The MACprotocol set in this paper have realized the MAC frame encapsulation and de-encapsulation,data transmission, CSMA/CA mechanism with virtual carrier sensing function, RTS/CTShandshaking protocol, segmentation and reassembly of large date. These are all the majorfunctions of the MAC layer and the realization of them means we have built a complete MAClayer protocol based on IEEE802.11standard on the SDR platform, this paper also addapplications to the MAC layer protocol and make the platform achieve text transmissionfunction. After testing, the results show that the basic functions of the MAC has beensuccessfully achieved on the platform, and the program can provide a good service for theapplication which we add on the platform.
