The rapid development of wireless communication technology has led to growing demand for radio spectrum, which is limited, valuable and increasingly congested. To deal with the dilemma between spectrum congestion and spectrum underutilization, cognitive radio (CR) technology has been proposed and advocated, which allows cognitive secondary users (SUs) to intelligently sense and opportunistically access those spectrum holes temporarily unused by license-holding primary users (PUs). In recent years, cognitive wireless communication system based on cognitive radio technology has been one of the important solutions of wireless communications spectrum. This paper studies and implements a cognitive wireless communication system on a software radio platform. Its purpose is to design a cognitive wireless communication system without spectrum license, which can work independently. Through the accurate detection and effective spectrum management, efficient use of spectrum resources can be achieved.This thesis details the background and cognitive radio technology research status, and then introduced the basic concepts and key technologies of cognitive radio technology. The application of cognitive radio has been studied, and the solution of cognitive wireless communication system has been designed, based on which, the USRP/GNU Radio/Python software radio platform for the important nodes within the system has been used to implement the cognitive radio technology. Some contribution has been done for the theory and practice of cognitive radio. Finally, the signal generator and spectrum analyzer system has been used to test and verify the correctness and stability of the system.
