Command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance(C4ISR) system can obtain more and more complex information nowadays, including a large numberof battlefield moving objects. Existing moving object database mainly focuses on the ideal Euclideanspace and limited road network space in the view of commercial products. In this paper, wecomprehensive study moving object, from the point of battlefield, including battlefield situationassessment and core problems of moving objects management in battlefield space to provide decisionsupport for C4ISR system. The main contributions of this paper are as follows.First of all, analyzing existing mobile object models, we abstract the battle space as an obstructedspace, and then construct the models of battle space environment object and moving object using thedata type-based modeling methods. The model of moving objects, which contains dynamic and staticattributes of the objects, for battlefield situation assessment is proposed to be the foundation ofoperations of situation assessment and implementation of the system.Secondly, considering the particularity of battlefield moving objects and combining with thespatiotemporal operations and mobile query of traditional moving objects we develop32operationsfor basic trend analysis, complex situation analysis, tactical analysis and planning and crisis inquiryfrom the perspective of the battlefield situation assessment. Since the future information is veryimportant in battlefield situation assessment, an efficient and accurate algorithm is proposed to predictthe location of moving objects in battlefield based on R-tree-based pruning, which is the basis ofbattlefield situation assessment.Thirdly, a battlefield situation assessment support system (BSASS) is implemented based on theabove proposed moving object model and above the battlefield situation analysis operations. InBSASS, users can submit queries easily via the battlefield visualization using the keyboard and mouse. And it can perform basic situation assessment and threat assessment, and users can also set specificrules for the system to perform complex analysis of the battlefield situation according to theirrequirements.
