In order to maintain3GPP’s leading position in the wireless broadband accessmarket,3GPP needs to overcome the challenges from WiMAX, WiFi and other wirelessbroadband access technologies. Therefore,3GPP proposed a plan called Long TermEvolution. As mobile communication network will develop towards the trend ofbroadband, mobile and IP, LTE will support high speed mobile, satisfy the requirementsof various services and realize the all IP framework combined with cellular mobilecommunication, fixed radio broadband access and mobile radio broadband accesssystem. It really should satisfy anyone to communicate at any time and any where. However, as the number of users and the type of services increases, radio resourcesmanagement is facing greater challenges. Therefore, research on advanced packetscheduling algorithm is to improve the data throughput, to guarantee the fairness amongthe users, to meet the fundamental business of QoS.However, the bandwidth of LTE wireless network is restricted to the end users. Inorder to meet the growing needs of users, communications operators and equipmentmanufacturers must make use of the limited resources of wireless system. Although thetransmission technology is advanced and the system bandwidth is wide, unreasonableradio resource scheduling will greatly affect the quality of user’s experience andcommunication. In this paper, radio resource scheduling of LTE system, analysis and design ofscheduling algorithm, performance simulation of resource scheduling have beenresearched based on a system-level simulation platform called LTE-Sim. Firstly, thispaper describes the background of the LTE system and the evolution of the networkstructure, and does an overview of the protocol stack. On this basis, this paper thenfocuses on the radio resource management and packet scheduling policy. Schedulingissues are discussed in mathematical modeling, and different scheduling algorithms areclassified researched. Secondly, link-level simulation interface EESM provides supportfor system-level simulation. The simulation models such as wireless communication, network topology, user mobility, protocol stack are described in detail with the process of system simulation. Finally, M-LWDF scheduling algorithm is improved based onGBR parameter in QoS. The improved algorithm and classical algorithms are comparedand analyzed to prove that the improved algorithm has improved on some aspects suchas throughput, fairness, packet loss rate and packet delay.
