《The Eastern Times》, widely known for its reformation among which are itsspecialized weekly magazines, is one of three major newspapers in early1920sShanghai. Since1919, such weeklies as "Education","Women","Children","Industry","Picture",“car”etc, had been founded. This movement not only for itself,but also in all of the news was a milestone in Chinese journalism history. By studyhistorical literature, basing the course of specialized weekly magazines development,this thesis studies the background, mode and characteristic of the specialized weeklymagazines establishing. Study finds that those weeklies are the product of the China’sNew Cultural Movement and the carrier of new thought, new knowledge."Expertschairing, opening to society, introducing new thoughts, disseminating new ideas, andexpressing professional content popularly" are their main characters. Ge Gongzhen isthe direct promoter. For the first one to establishing weekly massively in newspaper,《The Eastern Times》has been fashionable, and set an example.
