The translation materials the author selects are13column articles from oppositethe editorial page in China Daily. Opposite the editorial page (Op-Ed) refers to a pagein which commentary articles in a newspaper are written by non-editors. The editorialpage in European and American newspapers is mostly divided into two sides. On oneside are published opinions of positive comments; on the other side are the oppositeopinions. The page which publishes opposite opinions is called "the opposite editorialpage". The purpose of setting up this side is to collect more readers’ opinions andreflect objectiveness and fairness of newspapers, making opinions morecomprehensive.This report is divided into five parts. In the part of introduction, the authorelaborates emphatically the origin of the source texts, translation motivation andpurpose as well as the framework of this report. The first chapter mainly describes thetranslation task, including the style and language features of the source texts andrequirements for the deadline and quality of the target texts. The second chapter isdescription of the translation process, including preparation for the translation,self-proofreading and self-evaluation to the target texts. The third chapter is the mainpart of the report. Through the translation practice it sums up the three maintranslation problems, and finds out the specific solutions to these problems. The finalpart is conclusion, mainly generalizing some translation experiences, relative thoughtto the unresolved problems in translation practice, and enlightenment and outlook forthe future work and study.
