Time delay estimation has a broad prospect in military defense, industrial detectionand biomedicine etc. Currently, there are many effective algorithms in theory research, butaffected by environmental noise and sampling rate many algorithms cannot reach thetheoretical accuracy in practice. Moreover, due to the restriction of traditional hardwaresystem, the collecting and processing power have been limited. For using time delayestimation in practice, develop and implement high accuracy time delay estimation basedon the hardware system of high speed data collecting and processing power haveimportant practical significance and research value. So this paper focuses on a precise timedelay estimation algorithm, and realizes it in FMC6416hardware system of FPGA andDSP architecture.Firstly, give the signal model of time delay estimation, then detail the principle ofseveral common time delay estimation methods, and analysize their advantages anddisadvatages.Secondly, aim at the factors affecting the precision of time delay estimation,respectively introduce correlation peak interpolation method which can improve theresolution of correlation function, second correlation method featured with strong antinoise performance, and associate Hilbert difference method which is good for peakdetection. Combine the advantages of this three methods, put forward a kind of highaccuracy time delay estimation algorithm, and verify it with simulation.Then, use FMC6416high speed data collecting and processing board as the hardwareplatform, design and develop FPGA and DSP in detail. Implement collecting two waysignals and processing time delay estimation algorithm on this platform.Finally, collect two way signals in the actual environment, then process them for timedelay estimation and analysis the accuracy of the results. The experimental results showthat the function of FMC6416for collecting two way signals is correct and it can realizethe accurate time delay estimation in real time.
