Acoustic field visualization can recognize the location of the sound source by a variety of algorithm and received signals from the microphone array. And mark the intensity of the source's sound field by different colors. The location of the sound source can be represented intuitively in the form of pictures. The technology plays an important role in military field and modern industry.Visualization of sound field can be divided into two steps. First, locate the sound source, and then quantify its sound field according to its location.As time and funding constraints, the paper studied the sound source localization based on microphone array. The algorithms on time delay estimation are researched., especially the theory of generalized cross-correlation method. And the sound source localization method based on four-element array was investigated and the localization equations are derived followed by the performance analysis. Finally, presented an acoustic source localization system based on microphone array and virtual instrument. Test the system in real situations, and obtains the expected result. By consulting the feedback data from test result, it proves the feasibility of system's application and the reliability of system design. The sound source localization system has a high positioning accuracy when the distance between the sound source and microphone array is within one meter.
