The development of information digitalization has promoted and improved uponvocational education. Information storage and processing has become more and moreimportant in vocational education institutes. Therefore, the construction ofinformation systems has gained great significance in vocational education colleges.Putting a great amount of loose and seemingly non-related information together anddrawing valuable conclusions by collecting, collating and then analyzing through datamining methods provide valuable references for all aspects of vocational educationcolleges.Currently, data mining techniques is mainly applied in sales, finance,telecommunications, medical and other industries. This project will use data miningtechniques in vocational education colleges by building databases through collectingdata with analytical value and needs, using data mining tools to arrive at previouslyunknown yet useful information, and then summarizing useful rules to support finaldecision-making.Without any previously established information system at AutomotiveEngineering College, this project attempts to design and develop an informationsystem by fully utilizing all scattered and unassociated data in various departments.At the same time, data mining techniques would be applied while running the system.The focus is on the application of Decision Tree Method–based on the amount andtypes of the Institute’s current data, selecting the appropriate algorithm to analyze thedata from the database of the Institute and digging up valuable information thatsupports or finds valuable conclusions for the students while in choosing their majorsduring the admission process at Vocational Education College. It would furthersupport decision-making for the college’s strategic development, and finally achievesintelligentization of information systems.The main research agenda includes:1) Need-based Analysis and Design of Information Systems in Vocational College:Identifying informational needs, collecting and processing information; Using SQLServer to design databases; While databases contain all the basic information aboutcolleges, through program design, trying to provide different users with valuable information and the ability to browse and manage information based on users’ rangeof rights.2) Data mining techniques applied in information systems: Using decision treemethod as data mining technology, based on student’s achievement, performance andother areas of concern, aiding administrators and teachers to guide students inchoosing professional direction.3) Implementation and testing of information systems: Achieving major functions,such as login, input, query, statistics, etc.; Achieving other functions in areas ofevaluation and analysis, and decision-making support; Finally, testing and inspectingsystems against requirements.
