Research On The Application Of Data Mining In Teaching Management System In Higher Education

Institutions of higher education have accumulated a large amount of metadata in teaching and management during the past years, which is valuable enough to build a 'gold mine'of educational data. Using data mining technology to dig out the previous student learning data, teacher data and academic data, we can find more guidance information for the teaching and student management which will contributes to help the administrator make decisions and improve the comprehensive ability of the school. Also, it can offer reliable information for improving the teaching quality, adjusting the courses, and better distributing the teaching resources, etc. Then the school can play a more important role in the fierce competition.This paper, applying the data mining skill to the field of education management, introduces the development of data mining in China and the necessity and importance of data mining in college information management system. The main contents of this paper are as following.1. In this paper the author uses the association rule in data mining to research the useful information in educational management system and extract the useful and valuable information. If we apply this information to the courses setting, we can get a better result of distributing the teaching resources. And if we apply it to the teaching process, it will help the teacher better understand the teaching process and improve the overall quality of the students.2. The author also uses the decision tree in data mining to analyze the results of students in order to get valuable information, as there is an amount of information available in student management systems. It hopes to find some relevant models or theories that hind in the old information to give an accurate theoretical support for the research.3. As most of the colleges accumulate a lot of useful information by educational quality control, if we analyze this information by the association rule, we can find the relationship between the quality of teaching and the ages, title or educational background of teachers. Then we can trigger the interest of students to improve the quality of education.
