Currently, machining technology are heading towards high efficiency and highprecision, and the cutting tool condition is an important factor directly affects theprocessing quality and processing efficiency, so the detection technology on the toolhas attracted widespread attention of the scholars at home and abroad. Studies haveshown that accurate and timely detection of the state cutting tool machining systemhelps reduce downtime, increase productivity, which will be helpful to explore thepotential of the tool. And consequently modern automated cutting systems are ingreat need of accomplishing the detection of the cutting tool. Smart cutting holderthrough integrated sensor system can detect changes in the sensor signal processingand thereby to monitor real-time cutting tool state to achieve intelligent detectionprocess.Acoustic Emission (AE) signals can effectively reflect the status informationtool in the milling process. However the conventional wired transmission signal in asmart handle are difficult to accomplish, which hinders the integration of smarthandler. The wireless communication network has developed into a more maturekind of signal transmission technology that enables transmission of AE signals Toaddress this problem, we developed a way to integrate the holder of AE signalacquisition and wireless transmission system based on ARM.The paper carried on a preliminary study to determine the amplitude andfrequency range signals to deal with the AE signals and the transmission ways. Thepaper also carried a research on acoustic emission signal transmission medium toexplore the transmission characteristics of the signal and noise characteristics.Finally taking all the matters about the AE signals into consideration, the paperdetermine overall system design solutions.To deal with the characteristics of AE transmission, the paper designspreprocessing module to improve the noise ratio of acoustic emission signal and tofilter out low frequency noise,which uses ARM embedded system to complete thecollection and transmission of AE signals. The module Achieved in the Keil MDKdevelopment platform for the transmission of information collection, storage,analysis, and control commands. Also the paper designed PC software data controlsystem based on labview to deal with data transmission and storage and preliminaryprocessing.The paper designed experiment to test power consumption, transmission rates,error rates, and frequency characteristics of the preamplifier circuit under testsystems, and also the paper tested transmission rate and bit error rate of the system in the rotating state.
