Operating distance is the most important parameter in the evaluation of infrared system.Performance theoretical model is the most efficient method in calculation of infrared distance.Therefore, to establish a set of fast and accurate simulation system, it can use the parameterinformation and display distance of infrared system in real time. It has great significance for thedesign, development and manufacture infrared thermal imaging system.This paper analyzes the three factors which affect the operating distance of the infrared system.These factors mainly include infrared radiation characteristics of the target, the transmissioncharacteristics of infrared radiation in the atmosphere, and infrared imaging system performance. Inthe atmospheric transmission part, because of the complexity of the atmospheric environment,atmospheric transmittance calculation becomes a difficulty in calculation of operating distance ofinfrared system. Although the result of using MODTRAN software to calculate the atmospherictransmittance is precise, but it’s trouble to call, and can’t achieve the requirements of real-timecalculation. In light of this, we can combine MODRTAN software with the operating distance ofinfrared imaging system model based on spectral bisection method. Establish the system to estimateoperating distance of infrared system. This system realizes automatically written configurations forMODRTRAN software, automatically read configuration file generated from MODTRAN, andobtains the required information to solve the mathematical model. MODTRAN need to enterthe preset distance to calculation of atmospheric transmission. This paper established a presetdistance prediction model can be calculated preset distance according to a result of MOTRAN. Thispaper established a preset distance prediction model can be calculated preset distance according to aprevious result of MOTRAN. It can quickly find to meet the requirements of the optimal solution withthe calculation model through repeated calls to the MOTRAN. The change trend of infrared systemdistance along with the target projection area, the target temperature is calculated by the establishmentof the system. The impact of infrared system is analyzed about water vapor in the atmosphere, carbondioxide, ozone, aerosol in different detecting path distance. The attenuation of infrared system operating distance is analyzed in extreme weather, such as fog, rain and other weather conditions.Lastly the paper use soft program calculating the system operating distance by successiveapproximation method, joined of the characters of Gatherine-GP thermography. Results show thatResults show that the computing system is reliable.
