A Study On Press Supervision Object And Their Coping Behavior

The press supervision is an unique concept had in China, due to its features of openness,authority, breadth and depth along with its strong social function, press supervision is highlyvalued by the media, government and overall society. It is an important way for the media tosupervise public authority, monitor the social environment and promote the development ofsocial harmony and stability on behalf of the public.Chinese experts and scholars of the press and academic circles has been focusing on therole of supervisors in the topic of press supervision for a long time, lots of research have beendone and fruitful results have been achieved from the angle of how objects are supervised bythe press and how to supervise better. But not much work has been done about the objectsbeing supervised. Along with the development of China’s news and broadcasting business,especially the rise of new media, the growing ways of information transmission, theconstantly enhance of personalized communication and the increasing transparency of theinformation environment which supervised objects live in, objects are facing an even moreurgent need for the development of theories and practice guidance on how to respond to thepress. This paper focuses on the supervision objects that have been ignored previously, usingthe prize-winning works about press supervision of five China News Awards from2007to2011as examples, reflects the development patterns of press supervision through the analysisof object types and their behavior using text analysis and contextual analysis methods,provides a new angle of understanding the press supervision with new perspective and opensup new areas of press supervision.Through this study, it reveals that the press supervision object include organs of statepower, institutional units, enterprises and social problems, and evading behavior, confusingbehavior, cajoling behavior, resisting behavior, coordinating behavior are five types of thecoping behavior of these object. The paper derives some problems in press supervision of ourcountry from the analysis of the prize-winning works, drawing the conclusion that presssupervision have problems of object supervised is not comprehensive, the supervision power in some area is weak, and the object coping behavior facing public supervision is not entirelyscientific. The last part of the paper proposes the comprehensive management measures bythe ways of improving legal protection, perfection of the supervision mechanism, pushing theobject changes in ways of thinking and enhancing media self-regulation, so as to graduallyimprove and eventually solve the existing problems in China’s press supervision, and ensure itplay a better social function, and promote social harmony and development.
