The books that are collected by Si Dangzhai which is Zhang Yu`s reading room are veryrich and valuable, and they are cataloged by Gu Tinglong, and named Zhang Shi Si DangZhai Library Catalogue. This paper is established base on this book and also use a greatdeal of relevant materials to show a lot of information of Zhang Yu who is a bibliophile in thelate Qing dynasty such as the situation of his collection, the circumstance of his friends, andthe achievement in his collation.By reading the Zhang Shi Si Dang Zhai Library Catalogue, we can understand thesituation of Zhang Yu`s collection. Although the books which are collected by Zhang Yu arenot more than other people, but his collection is very special, and although he collected fewof wood block prints of Song、Yuan and Ming dynasty, but he collected lots of wood blockprints of Qing dynasty. These Qing dynasty block-printed edition books have a large amountof hand schools and manuscripts, and these books are very rare and valuable, so it is a verygood material to write about. This chapter was mainly launched describing from three aspects:First, this paper discuss the source of Zhang Yu`s collection, and think Zhang Yu`s libraryconsists of books handed down in bought, presented, written and copied from others. Second,this paper discuss the edition of Zhang Yu`s collection, and think there are a lot of books ofQing dynasty and Republican period which are included hand-copied book, block-printededition, and batch of school-based, and the latter for the best and the most good. Third, thispaper discuss the characteristic of Zhang Yu`s collection, and think it related to a lot ofaspects, for example, old materials, bronze ware, stone ware, the chronicles, the diaries, localchronicles, and so on. From above these three aspects, this paper will make a step further tostudy this book.There are a lot of contents in Zhang Shi Si Dang Zhai Library Catalogue, not only hasthe information about version and volume, but also has a lot of prefaces and postscripts, andthese inscriptive writings can be divided into two classes. One is written by famousphilologists like Huang Pilie, Gu Guangqi, Fu Zengxiang, Miu Quansun, Deng Bangshu, and Wu Changshou. Another is written by Zhang Yu himself, and retained many information oncollation, so to study these prefaces and postscripts is very important.Zhang Shi Si Dang Zhai Library Catalogue still records many contents about thesituation of collation and punctuates and annotate by Zhang Yu. This chapter mainlydiscussed the achievement of Zhang Yu`collation, and from three aspects as follow: the useof the method of collating, the results of collating, and the characteristic of collating on thehistory department. I am carefully studying the situation of collation about Zhang Shi SiDang Zhai Library Catalogue, and listing the achievement of collating by Zhang Yu, andcombine the book Hu Ke Tong Jian Zheng Wen Jiao Song Ji, to analyze and summarize thecharacteristic of collating on the history department, and divide it into two classes. One isrecording detailed the time of collating. Another is recorded by different colors.Zhang Shi Si Dang Zhai Library Catalogue also records the friendship of Zhang Yu`s.His career as a collation throughout his life, and therefore, he make a lot of friends withbibliophiles and collators such as Fu Zengxiang, Miu Quansun, Deng Bangshu, WuChangshou, Zong Shunian, and so on. This chapter mainly discussed the three situationsabout mutual collating ancient books, mutual copying, and mutual presenting.
