Instant messaging is an important form of network application. According to the forecastof iResearch Consulting Group, the number of instant messaging users will be up to470million in2012, accounting for80.3%of the network users. This huge number not onlydemonstrates citizens’ strong demand for information in this media age, but also foreshowsthe huge impact brought by internet communication, the new way of interpersonalcommunication. With the development of instant messaging, therefore, it is more importantand urgent to deal with the relationship between network communication and realcommunication. In other words, the study of the relationship between networkcommunication and real communication has become a subject with great significance. Thisthesis aims at studying the effects of network communication on real communication.After deciding to make network communication of instant messaging users as the researchobject, online questionnaire and documentary analysis are used to illustrate the influence ofnetwork communication on real communication. Closely around this topic, main contents ofthis paper are as follows:1. Deal with the background, purpose and significance of the study; introduce studymethods; summarize the thesis’s outline;2. Go through the definition, origin and development of instant messaging and networkcommunication respectively, making preparations for the following analysis and research;3. Design the online questionnaire, make empirical research of the current situation ofinstant messaging users’ network communication; collect and analyze the data, getting ageneral understanding of the samples;4. Make further study to analyze the effects of Internet communication on realcommunication, as well as the causes of these effects. The data obtained from former step andthe result of in-depth of interview are effectively used to support the analysis;5. Put forward specific solutions and suggestions for the negative effects of Internet communication pointed out by previous step;6. Summarize the points of this thesis, examine the defects need to be improved andgive suggestions for further studies of this issue.
