The Post-Occupancy Evaluation Of Er Sha Dao Community Sports Park In Guangzhou

With the continuous development of society and economy recent years in China, people’s living conditions have been improved greatly, together with great changes of traditional value of life and consumption. So their needs for physical exercise, entertainment and neighborhood communications grew rapidly. There are indeed parks and squares in the city which can provide public spaces for these needs. However, there are some problems for people to use them for exercises. Firstly, they are not designed specially for physical exercises so many people may think these facilities are not professional. Then, there are not enough parks and squares in the city to satisfy people’s mass demand. To deal with situation, Zhuhai(a city in Guangdong province) provide an innovative strategy through construct community sports parks to satisfy people’s demand for outdoor exercise spaces in 2012. Community sports park as an effective way to improve citizen’s living conditions was recognized by Guangdong province. And then, the provincial government of Guangdong extended this strategy into all the provincial area, also referred to the East, The West and The North of Guangdong province(yuedong, yuexi, yuebei) as key experimental areas. Although there are already amounts of community sports parks built during this period, what about their construction qualities and situations now? Are they achieved their original goals? Are the citizens satisfied with them? So it’s necessary and urgent to make post occupancy evaluation about the usage of these community sports parks now. Because our limits of time and energy, the author mainly apply post occupancy evaluation model to measure the bacis usage and users’ satisfaction, and then try to figure out some problems during community sports parks’ usage, with an especially focus on the factors which lead to them. This empirical study is of great importance for community sports parks’ practical construction.Community sports park as the basic research object, this paper firstly gives a detail discussion about the characteristics, typologies and already existed post occupancy evaluations, and then explores community sports parks’ post occupancy evaluation by the empirical study of Er Sha island sports park(ershadao tiyugongyuan) in Guangzhou.This paper firstly explored community sports park’s developments, features and typologies, and then gave a detailed description of post occupancy evaluation’s concept, history and development, specially introduced 5 main kinds of patterns, 10 ways of data collection together with relevant theories and existed researches. Established on these early researches, this paper tried to figure out main steps and ways for post occupancy evaluation study of community sports park.Choosing Er Sha island sports park(ershadao tiyugongyuan) in Guangzhou as a typical case study, this paper ascertained main evaluation factors through relevant literature studies and pilot empirical studies. Based on these works, the author made formal studies on Er Sha island sports park(ershadao tiyugongyuan) through observations, interview and questionnaire on internet to get the basic usage of the park, and then got the data for POE by formal questionnaires on the spot. Through data-analysis, the author found that:(1) users generally have a high evaluation on Er Sha island sports part(ershadao tiyugongyuan), while there are some facilities in the park need to be improved;(2)when the users’ age or academic qualifications are different, the evaluation results show big differences; while theirs different residence or gender makes little differences on the evaluation results.Combined user’s need and community sports park’s construction, this paper ascertained the factor set for POE of community sports park, and then applied it to empirical study to understand community sports park’s usage after construction, including users’ characteristics as a group, usage features and user’s satisfaction. Based on the studies, this paper then figured out main problems of community sports park in usage, then gave some suggestions for community sports park’s construction and the use of POE in evaluation of community sports park separately, looking forward to give some references for community sports park’s construction, management and future POE research.
