As Bruner once said, “The best excitement of study is the interest in it.” Therefore, after the new curriculum reform, our country has made the cultivation of students’ interest an important task for middle school chemistry teachers. Chemistry experiment is one of the efficient methods to cultivate students’ interest. Since the discipline development of chemistry is based on experiments, one may say chemistry is the research method and technique, the research object and content and the critical component of chemistry subject at the same time. Chemistry experiment plays an important role in the teaching of chemistry in middle schools.Yet due to the influence of regional differences, uneven economical conditions, difference in teachers’ ideas, their attitude towards students,students’ existing experience, schools’ hardware conditions and other aspects, the chemistry experiments in many rural middle schools are not efficiently carried out, and then even ignored. This research surveys the current teaching situation of chemistry experiments in junior middle schools in Dushan County and finds out that the lack of experimental teaching resources in rural middle schools, the low set-up rate of students’ chemistry experiment, the insufficient out-class activities for boarding students and other problems together lead to students’ lock of initiative in studying chemistry. The author carried out a empirical research on the problems above and the results show that improvement of chemistryexperiment teaching, guidance for boarding students to take part in out-class experiments, paying attention to students’ subject position,cultivation of students’ volunteer study and cooperative study could increase their interest in chemistry and thus develop their chemistry course scores to some degrees.The main content of this thesis include: 1. The raising of questions part elaborates the subject’s research background, significance, process and the current situation on experiment teaching both home and abroad. 2.It elaborates the relative theoretical basis for chemistry experiment teaching and points out nine grade students’ learning object for their required chemistry experiment skills. 3. It surveys and analyze the content relative to the current situation of chemistry teachers’ and some students’ chemistry experiments. 4. This part is the reason analysis on the existing problems. The reason why the middle schools in rural area of Dushan county couldn’t realize the optimized effect of its teaching resources in its current chemistry teaching situation lay in schools’ backward experiment equipment, which haven’t been updated for years,which make the experiments hard to be carried out, the lack of teaching resources and that many of teachers’ adopted methods couldn’t meet the new curriculum requirements. 5. The empirical research part combines the three-year teaching and education practical experiences and adopts the case study on the improvement of experiment teaching and out-classexperiments’ carrying out to study the efficient methods of raising students’ interest in chemistry in boarding middle schools in rural area.
