Research on educational attainment is a timeless topic in sociology. This study applies the theory of resource dilution, in the background of China birth control policy implementation, especially differences on method 、 time and procedure between minority and Han nationality, The birth control policy can influence the number of siblings between the Han nationality and the minority nationalities, then further explore how the number of siblings as a mediated variable influence Han and ethnic educational attainment gap. According to the resource dilution theory, we use CGSS2008 data; to investigate the birth control policy enlarges or narrows the gap between the educational attainment of the Han and ethnics.Our study found the difference of educational attainment in Han nationality and minority nationality increase year by year. The 1949—1970 cohort,The number of siblings had no effect on the educational attainment in Han and ethnic groups. The1971—1980 cohort,The number of siblings had no influence on the Han nationality,and the negative impact on minority was not significant. The 1981—1988 cohort,The number of siblings had no influence on the Han nationality, and the negative influence on the minority nationality was 0.693 years. Our results indicate that birth control policies have inadvertently enlarged educational attainment between Han and ethnic minorities.
