In Project-based learning, students are required to finish a series of individual or cooperative tasks, with the assistance of others (including teachers and study partners), using the necessary learning materials, project works are completed in order to solve the problem in life, ultimately, knowledge and skills can also be obtained. Project-based learning, which aims to develop students’ inquiry learning ability and knowledge application ability, emphasis on learning is the learner’s self-build process, teachers are guide, helper, and evaluators during learning self-construction activities. It is a teaching mode, which follows the student-centered educational theory.This study focuses on Instructional design and practice of high school English, students are leaded to a project-based English learning.Firstly, present situation and existing problems of Ningxia local high school English teaching are analyzed, then it is feasible to combine project-based learning and high school English teaching. Based on the current study achievement of domestic and international research on projects-based learning, and according to the condition of hardware and software as well as the teachers and students in the case school, two unique units of English instruction cases on Grade One in high school are designed.According to the project-based learning step, the teaching study is implemented in several groups. Using action research, literature, surveys, interviews and other research methods, from both theoretical and practical aspects, the questionnaires, interviews and student records before study and those result after study are analyzed from quantitative and qualitative perspective. Through the project implementation process and results analysis, effectiveness of the project-based learning in high school English teaching can be judged. Three conclusions can be drawn as the follows:1 Project-based learning can be implemented in English teaching, but this teaching model is seldom applied to high school, thus, the students own little learning experience.2 Project-based learning can improve students’ motivation, interest and self-learning ability in English learning.3 Fully using the modern education technology, Project-based learning can effectively enhance students’ comprehensive English language skills.Therefore, project-based learning can be involved in daily English teaching and identified to be efficient.
