Research On The Criterion Of Spouse-selection And The Way Of Spouse-selection Of Urban Older Young Men

In recent years, the phenomenon of "leftover men and leftover women" gradually gets the attention of the whole society, and was widely discussed and spread. Then older unmarried young men were pushed on the cusp of public opinion, and their spouse-selection issue has rapidly become a hot topic of the public. In the new background, the change of social values inevitably affect the spouse-selection of older young men, and then it will be reflected in the establishment of the criterion of spouse-selection and the choice of the way of spouse-selection. This article attempt to study older young men’s spouse-selection issue of the period of social transformation, starting from the criterion of spouse-selection and the way of spouse-selection.This paper selects urban older young men as research subject. Because on one hand, the public and the academic world pay less attention to this group compared to women, and in the patriarchal society, men is even more cautious and low-key on their spouse-selection issues, so definitely it is worth digging and exploring.On the other hand, although the data showed that the population of rural older men is larger, and their situation is more severe, but it’s mainly due to the large structural number and economic poverty, while urban older young men are faced with a combined effects of multiple factors, and their spouse-selection issues are more complex.This article combines quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis, uses survey research method supplemented by literature research method, adopts questionnaires and interviews to collect data, and uses SPSS 12.0 for statistical analysis.The study, firstly analyze the current situation of urban older young men’s criterion of spouse-selection, from three orientations of the basic conditions, the economic conditions, and emotional conditions, and then concludes three characteristics:the criterion of spouse-selection is a comprehensive standard, the criterion of spouse-selection is lack of love, the renaissance of "perfect match". Secondly, urban older young men prefer the way of spouse-selection of introducing spouse by family and friends, in particular introduced by colleagues.While their practical way of spouse-selection is mainly by marriage-seeking especially by marriage agency. Finally, urban older young men’s unmarried has four reasons as follows:Under market economic system the criterion of spouse-selection is profitable, and it caused spouse-selection alienated into a kind of social exchange behavior. The selective barrier of the diversified ways of spouse-selection leads to that the freedom of spouse-selection is difficult to realize. The urban older young men’s delay of socialization arouses the failure of role-playing and the difficulty of spouse-selection. The reality of the corruption of marriage moral situation makes them at a reluctant on the road of spouse-selection, and it produces psychological fear, so it is more difficult for them to get rid of older-unmarried situation.
