With the acceleration of internationalization, the importance of English is getting higher and higher, and there are fairly high requirements setting on English reading competence for the students who graduate from the elementary school to secondary school. However, there are still some disadvantages in the teaching of English reading in elementary school, which leads many students not to meet the requirements discussed above. As a new teaching method, Mind Map can effectively visualize thinking process, which is in accordance with the learning characteristics of primary school students. Therefore, this study tries to apply Mind Map into the teaching of English reading, aiming to research that whether it can stimulate students’learning interests, improve reading and language expression skills, and thus increase the efficiency of English reading teaching in elementary school.This study used the literature research method to sort out the relevant literature, through interviews and classroom observations, I knew the instruction status in English reading teaching in primary school, analyzed the problems and reasons, designed the English reading teaching process in primary school which is based on Mind Map according its function and characteristics, and implemented it in teaching practice. After the completion of teaching practice, I evaluated the application results of Mind Map through teacher’s evaluation, student self-assessment and peer assessment in team. Finishing the experiment, I used questionnaire and comparative analysis to explore the effectiveness of Mind Map in English reading classroom in primary school.This study shows that Mind Map in English reading classroom in elementary school is able to improve the status of students’ interest in learning English reading, participating classroom, and students’learning attitudes.At the same time, it can improve students’ ability to obtain the information, summarize key words and retell the reading passage.which is a useful teaching exploration.At the end of this research, I summarized the research results, analyzed the shortcomings, and prospected the future development of Mind Map in subject teaching.
