| Reading is an important resource for students to obtain information and knowledge,and it is also the foundation of language output.Both the New Curriculum Standards and the College Entrance Examination have put forward higher requirements for students’ English reading competence in senior high school,so English reading is a very important part in English learning.However,English reading teaching is not satisfied.The main problems are students’ poor reading interest and poor reading ability.As a tool of thinking and visual knowledge representation,mind map not only can open up students’ mind and stimulate students’ creativity,but also can help students’ master the structure of reading material and memorize it.In view of the current situation of students’ reading in senior high school,this research is based on the Brain Science theory,Schema theory and Knowledge Visualization theory to dig into the following two questions:(1)Can the application of Mind map stimulate students’ interest in English reading teaching in senior high school?(2)Can the application of Mind map improve students’ reading ability in English reading teaching in senior high school?This research selects students from two classes(divides into experimental class and control class)in Grade One in senior high school.The traditional reading teaching method is used in control class,mind map reading teaching method is adopted to experimental class.Based on the genre features of texts published by PER in Grade One,the author selects a travel writing narration and an exposition to make mind map in this paper.The teaching process is divided into three parts: pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading.During a whole term,the author adopts three methods to finish this experiment.They are questionnaire investigation,interview and experimentation.All the data is discussed by the statistical software SPSS19 to compare the students’ reading achievement which from the beginning to the end.Moreover,after the experiment,an informal interview was given to six students in EC with an aim to demonstrate the research results more powerfully.The results of the experiment show that: Combing mind map with reading is helpful for arising students’ reading interest and improving students’ reading ability than the traditional reading teaching method. |
