Mind map is an important tool in technology area of modern education,especially in teaching design area.It crystalizes the venation of ariticles,helps students understand the framework of a passage.It also means a lot to their improvement of reading ability.This study analyzes the grading task of reading in New English Syllabus.It also investigates the weakness of traditional reading teaching.Guided by constructivism and Schema teaching theory on this basis,I classify the reading materials in textbooks according to their types of literature to make teaching design,they are narration,exposition and stories.Although the reading instructions of different types of literature needs different mind maps,the teaching processes of reading instructions are almost the same.In beginning step,teacher guides students to conclude the outline of mind map after extensive reading;In deepening step,students read intensively.After knowing the logical relationship of the article clearly and mixing teachers' guide,students' exploration and groupwork,they complete mind map gradually;In knowledge transfer step,teachers can help students review what they've learnt in different ways,such as retelling,writing,creating plays and so on.As students get more familiar with mind map,teachers can guide students to study some reading materials on their own,or do extension reading using mind maps,then students communicate with each other on reading materials in class.According to the outcome of teaching design,I choose 2 classes from No.1 Middle School affiliated to Sichuan Normal University as the object of study for a whole year.I compared 2 classes' exam results for 3 times,I did vertical comparison between 2 students in each class,I also did survey in experimental class,all the comparison results show that the reading teaching design based on mind map is quite helpful for students' reading ability,retelling ability,as well as the improvement of thinking quality.The process of study also optimizes the class teaching effect.The result of study also shows the rationality of mind maps applied in reading instruction,meanwhile,it offers the practice samples for the future study of mind map applied in English reading instruction.
