Abstract/Summary:
The important goal of currant science curriculum reform is to fully improve students’ science literacy. Physics, as one of the basic subjects of natural science, plays an important role in cultivating students’ science literacy. To enhance students’ science literacy, major developed countries pay highly attention to the compilation of textbooks of basic physics, the reform of teaching methods and so on. Japan, our neighboring country, has done well in these aspects. It owns developed scientific and technological levels and the high standards of national science literacy which bear on vital relationships with a highly emphasis on the compilation of scientific textbooks, scientific educational concepts and the reform of scientific teaching methods. Therefore, making a comparison between China’s and Japan’s textbooks of physics from the perspective of science literacy which is conducive to finding out the demerits of our own textbooks and making the full use of Japan’s textbooks; which can also be a reference for our adaptation and compilation of textbooks of physics, which has an vital role in the improvement of students’ science literacy. The concept of science literacy, first proposed in 1950s, whose specific structure is on dispute. The main regions and countries in the world have established different science literary system according to their own conditions. The thesis synthesizes different countries, research institutions and scholars’ content of science literary and its basic constitutional parts, combining with the reality of our country’s education of high school physics. This paper divides science literacy into four themes:scientific knowledge; scientific inquiry process and methods; scientific feeling, attitude and values; STSE education, each theme contains a number of sub-themes, and each topic corresponds to the content of high school textbooks. Then, it makes a comparative study between China’s and Japan’s high school physics textbooks from the perspective of science literacy.Based on the content of the thesis, it is divided into five parts:The first part, introduction, elaborates the research background, purpose, methodologies, significance and the status quo of the research. The second part discusses the definition of related concepts and theoretical bases and also exposes the specific methods of comparative study of materials from the perspective of science literacy. The third part makes a comparison between China’s and Japan’s high school physics textbooks, which is based on the four themes of science literacy to explore the similarities and differences of the science literacy on the two countries’textbooks. The fourth part, based on the comparative study of the themes of science literacy, mainly analyzes textbooks for each theme and sub-theme. During the process, Microsoft Excel 2010 is employed to analyze the data, Based on the results of the analysis, I’ll make a deeper comparative study between China’s and Japan’s textbooks. The fifth part, summarization and inspiration, mainly analyzes final research results and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of the two countries’ textbooks in science literacy teaching of themes and sub-themes. It is hoped that it can be used as a reference for our country’s future adaptation and compilation of physics textbooks.
